  • Lunch & Afternoon — San Bartolo Community Experience
We return to the lodge for lunch, then take a short canoe ride to the San Bartolo de Sharayaku community. You'll meet the community leader and families, help prepare chicha (a traditional fermented drink), share a guayusa tea and chicha toast, watch traditional Kichwa dancing with authentic dress, learn to cook maito and yuca at the tulpa (traditional cooking fire), share a pambamesa (communal meal), and browse handmade crafts made by the families. For the adventurous, the community may also prepare special local dishes depending on what they've caught or foraged that day, such as piranha fish or grubs, which you're welcome to try. Your purchases go directly to support them.
